News Articles5 hurt in deck collapseFive people were injured Sunday night when a deck on a Ross home collapsed during a child's First Communion party. Rescue workers said about 15 to 20 people were standing on the deck during the family gathering at the Jacks Run Road home when it collapsed about 7 p.m. The five injured people were taken to Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side, said Ross/West View EMS Supervisor Greg Porter. The injuries ranged from shortness of breath to orthopedic injuries, Porter said. None of the injuries were serious, he said. Family members said a child was among those taken to the hospital. The deck was about seven feet off the ground on the side of the stone Cape Cod-style home. Porter did not know the age of the deck or who built it. Relatives said it was included when the family purchased the house, which Allegheny County property records show was in 1997. A building inspector was at the home last night investigating the collapse. About 50 people were at the home, owned by Tim and Jeanne Hunt, for the communion party. The Hunts declined to comment last night. |
