Easy Do It Yourself Instructions

Installation Instructions For: Rail Post | Stair Stringer | Ledger

Rail Post Installation for fixing wobbly railings, wobbly rail posts, and making railings safe.

Tools needed:

  • drill
  • 9/16” drill bit
  • hammer
  • pencil
  • tape measure
  • 3/4” socket
  • 3/4” wrench

Hardware needed for rail post installation

Please Note: Use only Stainless Steel mounting hardware with the Stainless Steel DeckLok Brackets and Hot Dip Galvanized mounting hardware with the Hot Dip Galvanized DeckLok Brackets. Brackets are available on our online order page.

Single Bracket Install Requires
(per post):

(3) 1/2" Bolts
(6) 1/2" Flat Washers
(3) 1/2" Lock Washers
(3) 1/2" Nuts
Double Bracket Install Requires
(per post):

(4) 1/2" Bolts
(8) 1/2" Flat Washers
(4) 1/2" Lock Washers
(4) 1/2" Nuts

Step 1:
Hold bracket against post and deck joist and mark holes.  Mark two holes on deck joist diagonally and one hole on rail post per bracket.

Step 2:
Using a 9/16” drill bit, drill all holes as marked

Step 3:
Install bracket using bolts, washers and nuts.  Tighten bolts with wrenches.

Deck Ledger Installation

Tools needed:
  • drill
  • 9/16” drill bit
  • hammer
  • pencil
  • tape measure
  • 3/4” socket
  • 3/4” wrench

Step 1:

Using the following diagram, determine the number of brackets needed and their locations. When anchoring the ledger board, DeckLok brackets are installed in pairs.

Step 2:

Position the bracket so the center hole will pass through both the band board and the ledger board.

Step 3:

Hold bracket against house floor joist, mark two holes for floor joist, one for house band board/deck ledger board

Step 4:

Temporarily install two bolts in the house joist. Slip 2nd bracket onto the bolts, mark center hole on house band board

Step 5:

Drill center hole

Step 6:

Install brackets on both sides of floor joist, bolt in and tighten hardware.
